Grand pop, Laurie Jensen, son of a blacksmith, farrier and engineer, moved from Manawatu, to No 8 Road extension, Tahuna, as a young fellow in 1911.
Settling on a farm, it wasn’t long before Pop’s engineering skill was put to use repairing farm machinery etc for the locals.
A workshop was built on the farm and work continued to increase.
In 1955, Pop and his eldest son, Des, who also enjoyed engineering, decided to build a new workshop; not on the farm, but rather in the rapidly expanding Tahuna village.
Farm machinery and general engineering repairs continued, so also did mechanical work. During the early 60’s, stock crates took off and when Eric started working alongside Father Des and Grand pop, Laurie in November of 1973, the business was manufacturing crates for clients from Kaitaia to the Manawatu and from East Cape back over to Taranaki.
The late eighties saw the demise of stock crates due to a number of factors.
It was in April 1993 that Des decided to sell Jensen Engineering and so Eric and his wife Sonia, along with ourselves, Colin and Denise formed a new Company, that of Jensen Engineering (1993) Ltd.
Since then, with the introduction of water pump sales and service (Colin had just come from managing a water/milking machine workshop for nine years) and extension of the cowshed pipe work area, the annual turnover almost doubled during the thirteen year partnership.
In 2006 we bought out the Jensen family and now own the business outright. It is known as Briscoe Water Pump Services Ltd, and we have steered the business in the direction of water pump sales and service, with a full retail service available.
We still stock the same full range of engineering supplies as well as carrying out light engineering repairs and maintenance and have now introduced water filtration for your home and cowshed.
